Frank Worsley,
captain of the Endurance. One of the men who answered the call. |
Men
Wanted:
For hazardous journey.
Small
wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness,
constant danger, safe return doubtful.
Honour and recognition in case of success.
This ad* was for Sir
Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic expedition of 1914-15. They
failed in their
quest to reach the south pole, but their experience was
amazing and inspiring.
They all should have died, but they didn't.
Their ship
was crushed by the Antarctic ice, more than 1,000 miles from
help, outside
radio range. No one was coming to help.
Except maybe
Jesus.
What they
endured and how they managed to survive is just
unbelievable. When I read
through the account of what they went through I can't help but wonder
if they had divine assistance.

Note: This version of the ad is most likely an urban legend. While
Shackleton did advertise for men to accompany him on this voyage, there is no historical evidence that he used this wording. BUT it is compelling and does reflect the spirit of the voyage they were about to undertake.

Vineyard Men's Ministry
What we
are up to
Progress report - June, 2011:
Our annual men's weekend away is set to September 23 - 25, 2011. After several years of discussion we have decided to officially change the name of our annual "Retreat" to "Advance." Our guest speakers have great plans, and this could be one of our best weekends ever. There has been some concerns over the years about alcohol at the retreats, so this year we are going dry, alcohol will not longer be tolerated. Looking forward to a great weekend!
We are continuing to try and support Terry Black's "prayer Guys" on Monday nights.
The Men's Ministry Team goal is to encourage and build-up the individual members of the Men's Ministry Team and the church body. As individual members realize their calling and are inspired to act as lead by Jesus, the other members of the team will lend support. Click HERE to download our handout about Men's Ministry.
Anyone interested
in getting involved with Men's Ministry should email me.
